Products - Maintenance
Granite is a very durable stone. It is also much harder than marble. We use a special impregnator on all of our natural stone products. You can also purchase this product from us at our offices. This will insure lasting life and beauty.

Polished granite should receive the same cleaning care as polished marble, preferably using specially formulated Du Pont Stonetech Revitalizer or using a mild phosphate-free, biodegradable liquid dish-soap, soap flakes or powder which contains no aromatics. Followed by a thorough rinsing and drying with cotton-flannel or chamois.

If you are going to go with just plain soap and water, keep in mind that this can lead to soap build up. This, in turn, will dull your countertop’s finish significantly and you don’t want that. Also, plain soap and water will not bring your countertop to a beautiful shine like out Stonetech Revitalizer will. When using a granite cleaner let it sit for several seconds then wipe away with a cotton cloth.

  Cutting on Granite Tops

You can absolutely cut on your granite tops. I would discourage from this though. No reason to ruin perfectly good knives.

Your stone is much harder than the blades of your knives and will dull them very quickly. Always use a wood chopping block or plastic cutting board.

  Sealing your Stone

BCG Recommends sealing your countertops every year or at most every other year. Using a quality product such as Du Pont Stonetech Impregantor Pro will penetrate your granite and provide it with a good seal. This in turn will allow your granite to keep its “brand new” look and shine. We seal your stone 2 times, once during fabrication and once during installation. Due to the amount of water we use to fabricate BCG recommends sealing 1-2 Weeks after install, either Professionally or yourself with quality sealer.

  Chips and Cracks

Granite is an extremely tough stone. It is a natural product and is one of the world’s most durable materials. Even though, you should not abuse your granite. You should always be careful not to drop anything onto your tops, especially pots and pans. In case of chips please keep the chip, BCG will most likely be able to repair it. Even though your granite is a solid surface, and is very durable it is possible to crack. You should never sit, stand, or allow children hang off of overhangs. These are the most vulnerable areas.

Granite is somewhat porous, some granite colors more than others. Liquids such as coffee or wine or anything acidic affect your granite the most and if neglected can stain your granite tops. You should always wipe up spills immediately, and use plastic boards when cutting lemons/limes, or anything acidic. Water spots will show on some colors due to porosity but will evaporate in time and return to its natural color.
